Someone replied to my email about women sleeping while men work (here for those who missed it!) saying she thinks both husband and wife should work together and rest together.
Good point, right? Why should a woman be sleeping while her husband works or vice versa.
My answer:
Then what happens to the darajah (degree) they have over us??
Men having a degree over us – like I mentioned previously – it’s not about bossing us around -but about giving more.
The marriage relationship is not equal. Men have a degree over us because they do so much more and are responsible for so much more.
If a woman is doing more in the relationship – this is not from Islamic tradition.
Regardless of how many children, how much work etc. – our tradition expects men to do more.
Maybe our cultures don’t.
But do you want a cultural marriage or do you want an Islamic marriage?
