Imagine coming on the Day of Judgement thinking you have so many good deeds only to realize they were worth nothing, or worse – they will be against you! We seek refuge in Allah from such a fate.
Unfortunately, many of us are in this quagmire. We are deceived by shaytaan or even our own selves in doing what we think is good and is getting us closer to Allah, but in reality, it is harmful to us spiritually, in this life, and the next.
But how do we know? How can we know if what we are doing is really, truly what Allah wants, or it is just what we think is good but He hates it?
Fiqh. Fiqh (Islamic law) teaches us what is good, bad, and permissible and when to do what. When you know your fiqh, you know what Allah wants you to do most and how; you know what you should prioritize.
So for example, if you haven’t learned your basic menses fiqh, as a woman, you know this has priority over studying Tafseer, and Arabic and listening to motivational talks, etc. Because learning basic fiqh is obligatory and the other things are extra. So you know to focus on the obligatory.
