Ghosted by the Shuyukh for This!

Ghosted by the shuyukh?! Yes. It’s happened to me.

Never when it’s a question on worship.

Or men’s rights.

But when it’s prodding about women’s rights…does she have the right to …..?

Silence.

Several times.

It starts out fine. They understand I am researching particular legal issues and are happy to help.

First few correspondences are great – the replies are prompt, with a lot of detail and reference.

Then when it starts getting into the point of my asking about a particular text – I don’t want to just understand the fiqh, but understand what the fiqh entails, if it means this xyz, it also means as a women I can do abc, right?

That’s when the replies just stop!

I do send reminders, duas, let them know if they would be so kind to answer the last question and I’m waiting patiently.

Ghosted.

MashaAllah. It’s happened more than once.

And I go back to my friend in Syria pestering her to find me another Hanbali shaykh I can ask, or another Shafi’ shaykh who will help me.

The reality is, by the Grace of Allah, I don’t need help understanding the texts. I understand them quite well, I simply want to confirm my understanding with these shuyukh.

But that there might just be the issue. I don’t think they want to confirm my understanding – which is simply what the books say.

They don’t want to talk about women’s rights that way.

“What if women knew?! What would they do?! How many marriages would this cause to rock??”

Though I understand these concerns, I think we need to ask different questions…until next time inshaAllah!

What do you think about this – should we be studying/teaching about these issues? Is it more harmful than beneficial? I’d love to hear from you!

Check out my Islamic Marriage course – it has all the exclusive content from my research.

It’s approaching marriage, duties/rights and responsibilities in a way you’ve never heard before! And it’s all from tradition fiqh, alhamduli Allah!
