It’s Wrong for Her to Sleep While He Works!-Response from Hadith

Recently someone said to me: “This isn’t the Deen that a husband works while the wife just sleeps!”

Sometimes I can’t believe people’s audacity.

If that’s your opinion – ok.

But to make your opinion the Deen?!

ESPECIALLY when you have not picked up a hadith book or a fiqh book or maybe ANY book but you assume your culture is so awesome and great that everything in it IS the Deen!!!

Hasbun Allahu wa n’imal Wakeel.

Immediately I thought of the hadith: Hadith of Umm Zar’ from Sahih Bukhari: .”I lie down and sleep into the morning…” Meaning she sleeps as long as she likes as there are others doing work for her.

Does her husband work? Yes. Abu Zar’ works. Does she work? No.

Oh but that’s not Sunnah – who is Umm Zar’ and Abu Zar’ anyway?

Well – someone very important.

Someone who ALL married couples – especially men – should know who Abu Zar’ is and how he treated his wife.

Why?

Because the Prophet ﷺ said to Sayyidah Aishah at the end of the hadith – after extensive praise of Umm Zar’ for Abu Zar’:

“I am for you as Abu Zara’ was for Umm Zara’.”

So actually, yes it is Sunnah 🙂

Of course I cover this in my Islamic Marriage class.

The course is paradigm changing.

It is not limited to cultural understandings – it is all in Sunnah – without cultural limitations.

Ladies, how badly do you want the Sunnah in your homes?! Sign up here!
