Sh.Samer al-Nass’ Talk at the condolence sitting for his son, Muadh al-Nass.

[The clip starts with him doing salawaat.]

Peace and blessings [salawaat] on the Prophet ﷺ who was sent as a mercy for all the worlds. Just a few words before I start this dua. The funeral of Mouaz, today is a lesson for us. By Allah, I did not give anybody money or anything to all those who had gathered today. And we are all going on this path, the path of death. Our deen has spirituality and materialistic things. We’ve come upon a time where the materialistic things are in the hands of other than Muslims, but the spiritual things; those are more prominent in us, and so the funeral of Mouaz, I consider it a lesson for us.

(The Shaykh says:) Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem, alhamdulillah Rabbil Alamin, and salawaat on the Prophet ﷺ. I remember he was also above 50 ﷺ when he was receiving rocks from every side – meaning that they were hitting him with the rocks. The angel of the mountains came down and he said “If you wish, I will crush them or bring together the mountains upon them”. And some people think it was in Taif. No! It was in Mecca. Then there would be no Umrah and Hajj. Do you see this? You would have no umrah nor any hajj if the Prophet ﷺ had taken revenge from self, but he said, “I hope from Allah he will bring forth from their loins those who worship Allah and not do join partners with Him with anything”.

They mention one of the big scholars: he was asked ‘Did your grandfather attend Badr?’ and he said, “He attended from the other side.” [i.e. he was a disbeliever].. You see this. I cannot remember any of the ulema except that I remember how his patience was ﷺ.

I am not speaking in front of you except that to show what is permissible and impermissible; he  ﷺ made clear what is the halal and the haram. The purest and clean message from Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala is in front of us, but we come short in fulfilling it.

So this funeral today is a lesson for all of the Muslims; that our end is to death and Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala is going to join and raise up whoever He wills, however  He wills and in that which He wills. So do not wait for that.

There is an a verse of the Quran, it’s called the verse of love. Sayyidna Thawban radi’allahu anhu, the Messenger ﷺ  saw him every day, he was becoming pale and his face was becoming more yellow, so the Prophet ﷺ asked him, ‘What’s wrong with you Thawban?’ and he said, “O Messenger of Allah, I love you and sometimes, I cannot be patient with your love such that I come to your house so that I can see you and then, I remember the day of judgement and so, even if I did enter Jannah, the station of prophethood is not my station”. So Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala, sent this down as a glad tidings for him and Imam Qurtubi mentions that came for Sayyidna Abdullah Ibn Zayd (radi’allahu anhu) and others as well.

Why do they forget this matter? In Bukhari it is verified that when the Prophet ﷺ opened the curtain “wadah” (i.e his face was clear and apparent) and there was light like light filled the room. When I pray fajr, after the fajar prayer my face is all dark and [like] darkness. and the Prophet ﷺ his light went through the whole masjid and covered the whole masjid and this is in Bukhari, Imam Bukhari narrated it in his sahih.

Why do we forget this matter? Why is it that the people who talk forget this? Because of this, the ones who come after them become materialistic and they become atheists. We ask Allah for aafiyah (well-being).

There has not been in the world of command nor in the world of creation anything like Sayyidna Muhammed ﷺ .

Now how much we are happy to do Hajj and umrah, if it weren’t for him ﷺ  we wouldn’t have any Hajj or umrah. If he agreed to do what the angel of the mountains said and close the mountains upon them smash the mountains upon them… Where would Hajj and umrah go? And the Prophet ﷺ  didn’t take any wealth, he didn’t take any buildings. Even Sayyidna Abbas radi’allahu anhu, he was annoyed, he was upset such that he said, “O Messenger of Allah, the people have brought you down, so shall we not build for you a raised hut/place [that is away from people]?” He said, “I will keep on stepping on their heels and they will keep on stepping on my heels until Allah gives me rest from them.”

And of course, this is from the matter of Allah, but I think that the spread of the Quran in our time is because of the Prophet ﷺ  mixing with us and you should or intermingle with people to give them spirituality.

Why I was surprised when I came, the first person who spoke said “Muhammed” as if it is his cousin from his father or mother. The bedouin Arabs used to say, “Muhammed.” As for the sahaba [they wouldn’t]. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala said, “Do not make the calling of the messenger ﷺ the calling of some of you to others”.

Why do we overstep this? Why do we overstep these spiritual matters?

Wherever I read in the Quran, I find the mention of him ﷺ. And he would start with the obligations and the expectations before those things that brought honour [i.e before the extras]. When the verse was revealed that the Prophet ﷺ is more worthy upon the believers than themselves, He didn’t say ﷺ ‘Raise my head and massage my feet.’ He said, “I have more right to every believer than himself, so whoever left property it is for the inheritors; I let them take it and enjoy it. But whoever has left a debt  or any loss, then it is for me and upon me.”

We put this young man [Muadh] in the care of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala and His Messenger ﷺ.

O Allah, rectify the ummah of our master Muhammed ﷺ. O Allah, relieve the trouble from the ummah of Sayyiduna Muhammed ﷺ. O Allah, join upon guidance the ummah of Sayyidna Muhammed ﷺ. O Allah, have mercy on the ummah of Sayyidna Muhammed ﷺ a vast mercy.

O Allah, cool the eye of Sayyidna Muhammed ﷺ with regards to his ummah, o Allah the way you had kindness and the subtleness in creating the heavens and the earth, and the way that you had kindness and gentleness with the fetus in the mother’s womb; have gentleness and with us, all the Muslims in that which You have ordained or destined by Your generosity and mercy, o the Most Merciful of the merciful ones. O Allah, this Mouaz has become impoverished for Your mercy and You are the One with no need to punish him, so fulfil for him that which he has become impoverished to You for [Your Mercy], and make him free of that which You have no need for [his punishment].

O Lord, accept this from us for the sake of the Prophet Muhammed ﷺ him by the secret of Surat Al- Fatihah.
