“Take suhur, for indeed in the suhur is barakah.”
The suhur (pre-dawn/Fajr) mean is not just for getting energy for the fast. There is barakah in it which is Divine Blessing which we are in need of always, regardless of whether we need the energy to fast or not.
This Prophet Ayyub (alayhis salaam) taught us in this hadith that our Prophet (peace and blessing of Allah upon him ﷺ) told us:(ﷺ)
“While Ayyub (ﷺ) the Prophet was taking a bath, naked, a large number of gold locusts fell on him. So Ayyub started to collect them in his clothes then he heard his Lord, Mighty and Majestic, call to him: ‘O Ayyub ! Have I not sufficed you (given you enough to need) what you are seeing?’ Ayyub (ﷺ) said: ‘Indeed by Your Power, but I cannot do without Your Blessings.”‘
Allah had given Ayyub all he needed, but Ayyub saw these gold locusts as blessings from Allah and gathered them, even though he didn’t need the gold, he wanted the blessings of Allah in them.
Likewise, we may have eaten enough at iftaar that we don’t need to eat suhur to energy to fast…but that’s not the point. We are always in need for the barakah from Allah. And in suhur is a definite way of getting it.
May Allah give us tawfeeq to reap the blessings of Ramadan.
